DDS, the details you've added have helped fill in the story a bit more. It sounds like you did what you could to prepare your teacher for the gig so perhaps your teacher's ego is his real problem.

Sounds a little bit to me like a scenario that happened in town here many yrs ago. A great jazz/big-band drummer filling in on a gig that was vastly different stylistically than what he was accustomed to, & altho a GREAT player within his style, the players didn't like his playing in that sit. ...or perhaps i'm readg a little too much into it...? V is right. Ego IS a problem, is it not? Always has been, in every facet of life, ESP in music, where many musicians/artists FTM have been known to be quite opinionated, selfish little brats whose egos teeter vicariously on a small perch [hopefully, as a rule, this seems to be less in the 'big leagues'...at least it is less-shown, because you wont last very long, unless you're a 'mega-star' ;c)]...
The whole thing is, the ego for the most part propels the psyche to advance in a particular field [along with desire, & the sheer enjoyment of]...but then one has to learn how to fade the ego into the background until it has little to do with that & mostly to do with the music & the situation. Most human problems are caused by conflict due to differences of opinion due to ego, are they not?! [img]wink.gif[/img]

(Why is it that sometimes you write as though steeped in the vernacular and other times you write like a college professor?)
Anyway, along those lines I heard a story from a drummer who was told at an audition that the band had problems with drummers who played way too loud. The sound guy told him this. So, he played at a modest level...and didn't get the gig.
Latter, he was asked to sub for this same gig. He just played the way he normally plays (not real soft). The other musicians said something like, "man, if you had played that way at the audition, you would've gotten the gig". When he told them about what the sound guy had said, they responded with, "oh yeah, we're letting him go. We've had a lot of problems with him in the past."
The approach to "Ego" must be tempered with common sense.
